|Holy Family Episcopal Church (HFEC) is a mission church of the Episcopal Diocese of California with the Bishopas the head of all missions in the Diocese. The Bishop delegates authority to the Vicar and an on-site governing body of elected church members called the Bishop’s Committee.
When the Diocese purchased the existing propertyin 1989, the congregation wanted to establish a preschool as part of the church’s vision and mission to provide excellent education to preschoolers on the Coastside. Holy Family Children’s Center (HFCC) was established by the Bishop’s Committee in cooperation with the Diocese and with the blessing of the Bishop. The HFCC Director serves under the supervision of the Vicar and with the teachers are employees of the Diocese. The church facilities are shared by the school and other user groups.
From the beginning, HFCC has offered Chapel time to the children three to four times a month. Chapel time is not a mandatory requirement of HFCC but is offered to recognize the spirituality of all human beings and to provide a very basic understanding of the love of God for the children (for example how we care for one another) through stories, songs and sharing. Parents are welcome to participate in Chapel time. The congregation and the Diocese welcome and have a respect for other faith traditions as well. We encourage parents to speak with the Vicar to see how celebrations of other faith traditions may be brought into the preschool in appropriate ways. Attendance is voluntary, and other activities will be provided for children choosing not to attend.
